Solicitors hold court at RHS Tatton Flower Show 2008

17th July 2008

Pearson Hinchliffe Commercial Law are proud to sponsor award winning designer Philip Hinchliffe's Show Garden at the RHS Tatton Flower Show 2008.

PRESS RELEASE

Two solicitors swapped casework for spadework by helping to build a garden designed by young Oldhamers for the Royal Horticultural Society Tatton Flower Show.

Roger Hinchliffe and Mike Pitt, partners in Pearson Hinchliffe Commercial Law, based at Hollinwood Business Centre, helped to realise the dreams of pupils from eight Oldham schools who designed the “Cultivating Young Minds” show garden, which opens to the public on Wednesday 23rd July.

The pupils, from New Bridge Learning Centre, New Bridge School, Kaskenmoor, Lyndhurst Primary, Limehurst Primary, Limeside Primary, St Margaret’s Primary and Holy Family Primary, designed the garden with the help of professional landscape designer – and Roger’s son – Philip Hinchliffe.

“As one of the sponsors of the project, we wanted to get involved in a very practical way,” said Mike. “In the words of the old song, the digging and weeding were hard – but the work was very satisfying.”

“The garden represents the lives of young people,” said Philip, who set up his own landscape-design business, Just Living Gardens, at the Enterprise Factory business-incubation centre in Oldham two years ago. “Some will travel quickly and easily. This is shown by smooth and organised ground. Others, though, may have difficulties. These are represented by thorny plants in a disorganised setting.”

Philip won a silver medal at the 2006 Tatton Garden Show with his “Ocular Garden”. Last year, in collaboration with Oldham Council Parks and Open Spaces Department, he won a sliver-gilt medal with “East Meets West”. This year, with “Cultivating Young Minds”, he is going for gold.

“The design was inspired by all the children who took part and have been involved throughout,” he commented. “It reflects the difficulties some young people have with a one-size-fits-all approach. A traditional approach might suit one person but, like the water in the garden’s design, another could take a diversion or different path.”

After the show the garden will be rebuilt on a permanent site at New Bridge Learning Centre.
